Nikol Pashinyan: ‘What I saw is simply catastrophic’

June 03,2020 19:46

“There is no law enforcement agency or administrative system that will be able to resolve a problem as massive as this,” Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said during a live video.

He said that, over the past few days, he has had very tough conversations with the chief of police and the director of the National Security Service regarding the spread of the issue and the problem of not accurately representing the issue. “What I saw with your help is simply catastrophic, I don’t know what else to say. But I will repeat myself: the work of the police is something I will focus on myself, but there is no law enforcement agency in the world that can deal with an issue as large as this and resolve the issue. Our police force needs to be 4-5 times larger, and that’s another issue.”

Nikol Pashinyan said that he still sees the opportunity for the public to change the way they view the law and the safety of those around them. “We won’t go anywhere this way. This is an opportunity for us to become a lawful country. Breaking the law is so deeply ingrained within us that we need to get rid of that mentality.”
