On 3 June the Bulgarian ambassador in Armenia H.E. Maria Pavlova Tzotzorkova handed over to the First Deputy of Health of Armenia Anahid Avanesyan humanitarian aid provided by Bulgaria to the Armenian government and the people of Armenia in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. The humanitarian aid consists of 500 sets of protective medical consumables for front-line medical personnel in healthcare institutions, including medical gowns, goggles and helmets. All medical supplies, providing full protection against infections and pathogens, are produced by Bulgarian companies and are designed for multiple use (can be washed up to 50 times). They meet the EU standards for medical protection and are compatible with the Armenian climate conditions. In her speech the Bulgarian ambassador highlighted the global nature of COVID-19 pandemic and the need for all countries to come together and help each other to overcome the consequences. “Despite our own difficulties, we stand by our Armenian friends and are committed to supporting you”, pointed out the Bulgarian ambassador. Bulgaria and Armenia are traditional friends and enjoy long-term historical and cultural relations.

She emphasized that the donation is being made as part of the EU-wide “Team Europe” initiative directed towards strengthening the capacity of the health sector in Eastern Partnership countries, including Armenia. It is also envisaged to help them cope with the socio-economic consequences of the crisis.
