In the “Changes to the Labor Code” bill draft, which was authored by My Step deputy Tsovinar Vardanyan, the guarantees given to women returning from maternity leave will be strengthened until their child turns one. For example, the mother’s salary cannot change until her child turns one.
During the Standing Committee on Health Care and Social Affairs, Tsovinar Vardanyan said that paternity leave was also outlined in the draft. “This is new to Armenia and it will be provided to the child’s father after the child is born. Within 30 days, the child’s father can apply for a five-day paid leave. This will be put into effect on January 1st.”
The draft needs to be discussed and voted upon during a National Assembly session.
