EU NEIGHBOURS. Farmers in the Armenian regions Lori, Shirak and Tavush have received nearly 20,000 kg of high-quality legume seeds.
Тhe United Nations Development Programme in Armenia has provided pea, lentil, chickpea and soybean to over 200 farmers as part of the project ‘Green agriculture initiative in Armenia’. Co-funded by the EU, the project is part of the immediate assistance to Armenia aiming to mitigate the impact of COVID-19 on the agricultural sector.
The premium grade seeds are enough to sow 110 hectares and will enable the development of local legume production, removing the need for imports.
Additionally, the farmers will be able to collect the seeds from this year’s harvest for future use. Thanks to this project, the farmers will also receive professional advice on cultivation to ensure a productive harvest.
