“This is a call to society and the international community about how democracy is dead in Armenia. Armenia has a dictator who does not prioritize the elections and the will of the people, but only his own will,” the spokesperson of the Republican Party of Armenia, Eduard Sharmazanov, told Aravot Daily in an interview. He was referring to the Prime Minister’s statement during Thursday’s session of parliament where he said, “Only the forces that supported the democratic values of the revolution in 2018 will be a part of the next parliament.”
In April of 2014, Eduard Sharmazanov, who had been the Vice Speaker of the National Assembly at the time, said, “If anyone has the ambition to become the president or prime minister in the coming years, then the road to that lies on Melik-Adamyan street.”
Eduard Sharmazanov then asked, “What is the Prime Minister preparing to do to the 200,000 people who voted for the Republican Party, Prosperous Armenia, and the ARF? We received 60,000 votes, the ARF received 40,000, and Prosperous Armenia received 100,000. Is he going to send them to Siberia or arrest them? Is he going to send the 200,000 citizens who voted for those parties and who disagree with Pashinyan’s policies to Siberia and call them national traitors? This is an anti-democratic and anti-national statement and that’s the end of it.”
