EU NEIGHBOURS. On 25 June, a total of 134 tonnes of COVID-19 protective equipment were delivered in the Ukrainian capital Kyiv. The assistance was provided by Poland in response to a request from Ukraine via the EU Civil Protection Mechanism. The transportation was coordinated and co-financed by the EU.
A convoy of 13 lorries transported 40,000 medical masks, 50,000 gloves, more than 11,000 face shields, more than 100,000 litres of disinfectant, 7,000 protective gowns, and 1,000 sets of safety gear and shoe covers. The equipment was procured by the International Solidarity Foundation.
Since the beginning of the COVID-19 crisis, other EU Member States have also supported Ukraine with essential materials, funding and technical assistance.
Apart from the bilateral assistance from Member States, the EU helps Ukraine fight the coronavirus crisis through a package of €190 million. The package is aimed at supporting Ukraine’s short-term emergency response to the health crisis, strengthening the health system and addressing the economic and social consequences of the pandemic.
