EU NEIGHBOURS. During a high-level visit on 1 July, Head of the EU Delegation to the Republic of Moldova Peter Michalko, the Ambassador of Austria to Moldova, Christine Freilinger, and the Ambassador of France, Pascal Le Deunff, visited the city of Cantemir. The delegation met with the mayor and visited a local preschool, recently renovated under the EU-funded project ‘Thermal rehabilitation of the educational buildings in Cantemir’. The project was implemented by the municipality and the Alliance for Energy and Renewable Efficiency under the EU-funded programme ′Covenant of Mayors – Demonstration Projects′.
Thanks to the project, the preschool, which has 135 students, has been fully rehabilitated and brought to EU standards. The building has been equipped with thermal insulation, new water supply and ventilation systems, and other energy efficiency improvements.
Mr Michalko used the occasion to congratulate the mayor of Cantemir on winning first place in the 2020 EU Sustainable Energy Award for the Eastern Partnership with the EU-funded project ‘Green lights Moldova’.
