EU NEIGHBOURS. On 6 July, the EU and the World Health Organization (WHO) delivered supplies to 27 laboratories around Ukraine to build up their testing capacities, as part of the COVID-19 response in Ukraine.
The supplies include nearly 10,000 packs of consumables, over 200,000 reagents for various stages of the PCR process and nearly 1,900 laboratory equipment items. All items have been checked to ensure they meet the WHO quality standards for reliable, accurate and fast COVID-19 testing.
The delivery will facilitate testing for laboratory workers, and will increase the number of tests, while reducing the probability of human error.
The lab supplies were procured as part of a larger assistance package from the EU through its ‘Solidarity for Health Initiative’. The initiative is implemented by the WHO Regional Office for Europe and aims to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in Ukraine.
