Prime Minister: ‘There are concerns that batches of the coronavirus vaccine will be completely at the disposal of several countries’

July 09,2020 21:45

During the government session, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan made several explanations regarding the negotiations taking place to obtain the coronavirus vaccine and different critiques.

The Prime Minister said, “After the last session, many people began to wonder how the Armenian government and the Ministry of Health are already negotiating to obtain the coronavirus vaccine when it does not exist yet. I want to explain that, since the whole world is waiting for this vaccine, people are already waiting in line for this vaccine even though it does not exist. And there are countries that have already purchased the vaccine; they have transferred large amounts of money for that future purchase and they obtained large amounts of that vaccine. This also raises concerns that batches of the coronavirus vaccine will be completely at the disposal of several countries. So, we are thinking about what we can do to prevent this from happening.”

Minister of Health Arsen Torosyan added that there is a vaccine, and there are several vaccines already, but they are awaiting final approval. “Even more, there are companies that have provided tens of thousands of those vaccines in their final form so that clinical experiments can continue. Once they receive approval, they will quickly distribute those vaccines. There are many vaccines, and once they receive approval, there won’t just be one vaccine, but several.”
