The director of the Gyumri Medical Center, Armen Isahakyan, told Aravot Daily that there are cases where people keep the fact that they have the coronavirus a secret. They attempt to self-medicate and are sometimes embarrassed that the people around them might find out.
“There are some people who are embarrassed that they got the virus and I don’t know why. I’ve even had someone want to get an ultrasound. When I asked them if they had COVID-19, they said no, and finally, they later admitted that they did and they had a fever once. I told them to go and get paperwork if necessary and that they would be able to be treated at our hospital free of charge. They said that they’d prefer to pay to be treated. So, these people want it to remain a secret because they are embarrassed, but this is dangerous because their movement is not being controlled and it is possible for them to infect their neighbors and friends. If they are examined, tested, and receive medical attention, that will be much better.”
He continued, “I want to emphasize once again that fast tests are not 100% accurate and the state has the ability to perform high-quality tests in both the main coronavirus hospitals and stationary departments regardless of the number of patients. The other tests may be good because they confirm whether or not your body has created antibodies, and if the patient needs to leave the country, that can be used as proof that they are not sick. However, it is important for people to get properly tested so it can be confirmed.”
In an earlier interview with Aravot, Armen Isahakyan requested that anyone infected with the coronavirus stop attempts to self-medicate because it can have severe consequences. He said that there are cases where patients do not go to the main hospitals and they start to receive treatments from doctors elsewhere. As a result, they end up getting taken to the hospital in critical condition. In these cases, it is sometimes impossible to save their lives.
