Large protests took place in several villages in Azerbaijan as well as in Baku. The protesters were chanting anti-Armenian and pro-war slogans. They even went to the parliament building.
Aravot Daily asked Artsrun Hovhannisyan during a briefing at the Crisis Information Center in Ijevan about whether or not these protests could lead to Baku launching a large-scale war and whether the deaths of high-ranking Azerbaijani soldiers could be the reason for this war.
“I am not able to answer that question. But the officials in Baku can try whatever they want to. There are many factors that influence Azerbaijani society, including inner political factors, and everything can be based on that. As far as I know, the protesters had a lot to say and I am not the one who is supposed to give an evaluation on that,” Artsrun Hovhannisyan said.
The Azerbaijani Armed Forces began military operations on July 13th at the Armenia-Azerbaijan border in the Tavush region. Four Armenian soldiers and dozens of Azerbaijani soldiers were killed.
