“The number of active coronavirus cases, i.e., people who have had positive tests and have not yet recovered and had a negative test result, are less than 10,000 for the first time since June 14th,” Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced during a live video on Facebook.
He said that although this is an important milestone, it also does not mean that people should stop being careful. The prime minister said that the data exists to suggest that we not only have entered the phase of overcoming the coronavirus, but it is also possible to have more immunity towards it during the potential second wave in the fall.
The prime minister noted that along with this good news, PR campaigns against wearing masks have started to become more active. “I noticed that PR campaigns against wearing masks have spread as this good news became known. People are starting to protest against wearing masks. Please do not pay attention to such irresponsible campaigns because wearing masks during this stage of the pandemic is critical.”
He said that this positive trend in the number of cases is also due to people wearing masks. “The reason for this positive trend is that people are following the anti-pandemic rules, the main one being that they need to wear masks. Although it is unpleasant for me too, I wear a mask all the time, even when I’m driving or during meetings. But it is important to note that the positive dynamics are due to the rules about wearing masks. Some have suggested that the warm weather also plays a role. I believe that it potentially does. We were following the countries where the temperature had reached 35-40 degrees Celsius in June and where the pandemic was spreading at a high rate. I want to say that these statistics should not encourage us to stop following the pandemic norms, but they should encourage us to do so even better. Otherwise, we will find ourselves in the same situation we were in in June.”

Nikol Pashinyan also said that approximately 700 people died of the coronavirus in Armenia, which he considered to be a terrible statistic. Then, he assured that if the need for easing some of the restrictions arises and it is in Armenia’s best interests, the government will be the first to rush to do it and announce it. He also stressed that 451 cases per day is not a small number, and that Australia went back under lockdown after having 500 cases per day.
