A professor and political science Ph.D. at Lehigh University in Pennsylvania, USA, Arman Grigoryan, spoke about the upcoming US presidential elections in November at the Ararat press club.
He noted that the economy in the US was stable before the coronavirus and current President Donald Trump’s chances of reelection were high. “After the pandemic, it became clear that the economic situation worsened. At the moment, over 40 million people are unemployed in the United States and there has been a decrease in economic activity. This is the situation the United States will be in for the next elections. Now, for this reason, and for Trump’s inconsistent and ineffective reaction to the pandemic, I believe that Trump’s chances for reelection have significantly decreased.”
According to Arman Grigoryan, Joe Biden has a high chance of winning according to surveys. “But we have not reached the point yet where Biden has been forced to present his strategy and enter a debate. It seems that Biden’s health condition has worsened recently. There are serious signs of age-related disease. And I do not know how American voters will respond to this when the candidates will need to interact with them more in September and October and Biden will be forced to appear on camera more often.”
