“The Armenian National Film Center produced the films Catharsis and The Rainbow Legend along with the Multart Studio in 2019. We were preparing to have a large premiere on June 1st, but after taking the latest developments with the coronavirus into consideration, it was postponed. Now we are waiting to see when the theaters will open again so that the premieres we had planned will finally take place,” director and film producer Artur Mikayelyan told Aravot Daily in an interview.
According to him, unlike the previous films, these two are more technologically advanced because they were produced using tablets. “Every character and their movements were created on computers. Yes, the painting process remained the same with the help of artists, but the images are very modern and much smoother. We hope that it will advance well in the international market.”
Artur Mikayelyan said that there is an issue of changing the way people view animation in Armenia. “Most people understand a short film meant for young children when they hear the phrase ‘animated film.’ It is important to create valuable productions in order to prove to people that animated films can also be enjoyable for older audiences both simply for watching and for learning something.”
He added that it is possible for them to carry out online premieres, but they found it preferable to hold the premieres for Carthasis and The Rainbow Legend in December.
