Nearly 600 entities have already started sorting paper wastes and handing it to the division engaged in sorting wastes. The municipal organization “Landscaping and environment protection” now includes the newly-opened division of waste sorting which undertook solving one of the most important problems of Yerevan environment. Cardboard wastes make nearly 5 % of the whole wastes of the capital.
Three trucks tour about the administrative districts starting from 9 in the morning, collect and transport the accumulated cardboard. Yerevan started waste sorting last year and now the process has become more coordinated. The organization also cooperates with active citizens and NGOs.
At the end of each day the collected paper waste is transported to recycling plants of the organization won in the competition.
It is planned to open a temporary sorting station in Ajapnyak district to sort plastic waste. The wastes also provide entries to the budget to finance purchase of equipment and waste containers.
The Municipality intends to purchase waste containers of different colours. Before that townspeople will have to sort paper waste and not to mix it with other garbage. Then they can hand it to waste sorting division telephoning on +374 11514 747 or visiting the division’s page on Facebook.
