Candidate for Constitutional Court judge Edgar Shatiryan met with the deputies of the My Step faction.
Before the meeting, reporters asked Shatiryan what he expected from his meeting based on a previous meeting he had with the deputies as a member of the Corruption Prevention Commission. He said, “I believe that they will ask many questions. They may ask me about my different approaches or positions on different issues. I will present my perspective, my approaches, and my beliefs.”
As far as how prepared he is to become a Constitutional Court judge due to the controversies surrounding the court and the public’s expectations, Shatiryan said, “No matter whether it’s me or another person, someone else may be nominated as a candidate. The discussions that took place were very preliminary. To answer your question, no matter who the candidate is, they need to realize that they are taking on a huge responsibility because lots of events have taken place surrounding the Constitutional Court over the past several months. It is not unlikely that different processes will take place at the European Court of Human Rights. I have presented my professional opinion on this and it has not changed.”
