Gagik Tsarukyan: ‘A decision needs to be made that would provide coronavirus patients with medicine for free’

August 31,2020 21:35

The head of the Prosperous Armenia party, Gagik Tsarukyan, is continuing his meetings with the public prior to the autumn session of the National Assembly. He met with members of the party from the Gegharkunik region.

He spoke about the fight against the coronavirus. “People who are in isolation or who have the coronavirus are not being provided with medication. We know that treatment costs at least 250,000-300,000 AMD. But people are not working in a country that has been in a state of emergency for the past five months. People are sitting at home, and our government is also sitting around. It gave people 68,000 AMD one month. People can live off of 68,000 AMD without paying bills. But people only received that once over the past five months. Who is going to give sick patients their medicine? If people aren’t working, where will they get the money? A decision needs to be made that would provide coronavirus patients with medicine for free.”

Besides that, Gagik Tsarukyan suggested that families living in poor conditions should be provided certificates that would enable them to receive free treatment. “People either need to be provided with that money, or there need to be hospitals in the city and the regions. The government benefits need to be applied to those hospitals for people to receive free treatment. Let them be nice hospitals, VIP… There also needs to be one hospital in the regions. If the issue isn’t resolved in that way, then the others need to be free. Government benefits are a few million AMD, and they should be applied to those hospitals so people can go and receive treatment and get surgery. The state is responsible for resolving that issue and getting rid of the problem. Either hospitals need to be free, or they need to give that money to the people.”

Gagik Tsarukyan also said that Prosperous Armenia will be raising the issue of agricultural loans in parliament. “People are prisoners to loans. They aren’t able to pay off the loans, they aren’t able to provide for their families, and they aren’t able to take out more loans. They lose their homes and land as a result when they should be pardoned. Imagine, the villages are emptying because young people don’t want to stay in the villages. The people who do choose to stay should be provided with the resources to enable them to live off their profits in the winter.”
