Tevan Poghosyan: ‘Azerbaijan and Turkey are actively preparing for something’

September 08,2020 21:35

“The countries that had hidden interests began to act on it,” Tevan Poghosyan, the President of the International Center for Human Development and the Advisor to the President of Armenia, told journalists during a press conference at the Blitz Info press club.

He especially mentioned Turkey, which is obviously trying to spread its influence throughout the Middle East, Mediterranean, and our region through its enacted policies. “It did everything to make sure that Azerbaijan would intensify the situation somewhat so that Turkey can say that it stands with Azerbaijan, and that Turkey is Azerbaijan’s big brother. Through making such statements, it seems as though Turkey is saying that it also is a side in the Artsakh conflict, Armenians are its enemies, and it will go after Armenians.”

According to Tevan Poghosyan, this all needs to be an opportunity for Armenians to follow the situation, develop new policies, and be prepared for new scenarios and new challenges. “Internal political problems may often be based on economic or social crises that may take place in Armenia if we do not implement the correct policies. I believe that the best way for us to avoid a crisis is to develop a process where all political forces will unite and try to hold discussions to find solutions.”

He believes that Armenia will be facing a major security threat. “Azerbaijan and Turkey are actively preparing for something. The military exercises have already begun. They saw the level the Armenian side has reached during the July skirmishes and how we defeated them. Just as we defeated the enemy in 2016, we did the same in 2020. And after seeing that, I think they are trying to solve the problems that they encountered.”
