The people who determine the policies in different sectors must always make decisions. For example, if it’s true that poverty is only in people’s minds, then they need to change their minds. But if poverty isn’t in their minds, then the government needs to secure the prosperous and happy lives of citizens. It is not possible to choose both of those approaches. It is also not possible to please environmentalists and miners, free-thinkers and homophobes, people who refuse to give up land and those who want to come to a compromise, or the followers of Sasna Tsrer and law-abiding citizens. Only the government is able to decide its priorities in, say, the economy, education, and foreign policy regarding these issues. But this means that it must give up on populism.
