Prosperous Armenia, the Armenian Revolutionary Federation, and Hayrenik (Fatherland) political parties will be holding a gathering on October 8th. During a briefing today, Prosperous Armenia deputy Iveta Tonoyan said that society’s wishes were not fulfilled over the past two years, and there is a lot of dissatisfaction in the public agenda.
The secretary of Prosperous Armenia, Arman Abovyan, in reference to foreign policy and Aliyev’s latest statement, said, “It is a fact that not only the President of Azerbaijan, but also the Turkish President and Minister of Foreign Affairs are actively participating in an information war that shows they might take the route of new military provocations. The statements that we have heard over the past few days are concerning on the one hand, but on the other hand, they may seem ridiculous to us. These statements seem to explicitly outline their preparatory logic.”
He also said that Turkey and Azerbaijan carried out military exercises in August in Nakhichevan, where Turkish troops and weapons are also located. “Information in the media proves that Turkey is actively placing Islamists in Nakhichevan. This shows that Azerbaijan is participating in preparatory activities in all directions. What are we supposed to do? First, we need to raise this issue through all international channels. We obviously have the proof that Azerbaijan and Turkey are trying to increase military tensions in the region. We also must clarify that the events taking place surrounding Armenia and Artsakh will force us to work better in the international community from a diplomatic perspective and even more aggressively.”
Abovyan said that he does not understand what the purpose of the negotiations is. When he raises the issue, he is simply told that they are holding consultations. “The statement made by the Azerbaijani authorities has nothing to do with the negotiations process. The Azerbaijani authorities want war and they are actively preparing for it. Over the past two days, there have been gatherings at the reserves in Azerbaijan. The situation today is much different. For the first time, Turkey is not excluding or hiding its military participation, but it is explicitly stating that it will be involved in future processes.”
