“All of those statements are emotional and they do not have any foreign policy value,” My Step deputy and member of the National Assembly Standing Committee on Foreign Relations, Tatevik Hayrapetyan, told Aravot Daily during an interview regarding statements made by high-ranking Turkish officials targeting Armenia.
The President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, blamed Armenia for interfering with the peace process in the South Caucasus during his speech at the 75th session of the UN General Assembly. The Turkish Minister of Defense blamed Armenia for violating the ceasefire regime. The Turkish Minister of Foreign Affairs Memlut Cavusoglu said that Turkey stands with its brother, Azerbaijan, and Armenia needs to cease all forms of aggression.
“In general, Erdogan’s aggressive speech at the UN is a prime example of what I said. Turkey is trying to stick its nose in other regions’ business, and it is trying to do the same in the South Caucasus,” Tatevik Hayrapetyan stressed.
According to her, speeches and statements made in support of Azerbaijan are made at Azerbaijan’s request so that it can prove that its aggressive stance has any sort of support. “However, Azerbaijan and Turkey are both well-known for their aggressive and non-constructive positions. I think that Azerbaijan cannot receive anything from Turkey’s support after taking into consideration the image that Turkey has across the world.”
