Larisa Alaverdyan: Turkey and Azerbaijan have a strategic plan where Armenia is an obstacle

September 25,2020 19:00

“What else is Ilham Aliyev supposed to do in order to make the people of Armenia understand his policies?” the executive director of the Against the Violation of the Law NGO, Larisa Alaverdyan, said during an interview with journalists at the Pastark press club.

Larisa Alaverdyan stressed that Turkey and Azerbaijan have a strategic plan where Armenia is an obstacle. According to her, Turkey and Azerbaijan have been operating as a union of two states in recent years. “The fact that they did not do it de jure or they may not do so for the time being should not mislead us. If you remember, even some Armenian analysts wrote about the difference between the policies of Azerbaijan and Turkey about Armenians and, in particular, the issue of Artsakh and Armenia. Naivety is unacceptable. We must be serious about the fact that we have two neighboring states that were unable to finish the genocide in Eastern Armenia. They have not let go of that idea- just the opposite.”

Larisa Alaverdyan believes that Azerbaijan wants its commentary to be more important in Armenia than Armenian commentary. “That should not seem as though it is a small problem in comparison to military operations, for example. That is not the case. The very destruction of society against the backdrop of these completely contradictory statements that were made by the new authorities are all contradictory and very dangerous. We have had the opportunity to talk about it before, but he wants to use that uncertainty as a weapon to blow up that issue from within so that Armenians can be convinced that the new authorities have failed. That is the important part, the description- see, who are these new authorities? They made promises and failed.”
