Aravot Daily visited the Kentron district
Mike Batuk, who moved to Armenia from Syria, lives in the Kentron district of Yerevan. In an interview with Aravot Daily, Mike Batuk said that only the central streets in Yerevan are illuminated. The secondary streets are virtually not lit up at all.
Another resident, Satenik, said that the elevators in several buildings are in poor conditions and dangerous, and the entryways, stairs, and roofs are also in poor condition. The people we interviewed were not unsatisfied with the garbage removal in Kentron, but they think that the alleyways should also be taken care of.
We listened to the opinions of residents after conducting a small visit to the Kentron district. Another resident of Kentron, Gayane Minasyan, and others said that they’ve never seen social workers visit their neighborhood in order to understand the social conditions of poor families, which is important. According to the residents, the number of families living in poor conditions has increased as a result of the coronavirus due to the fact that they lost work or they came from Russia and got stuck in Armenia and, as a result, do not have the means to live.

The current activities are being carried out by the appropriate companies. “At the moment, new elevators are being replaced in 10 apartments.”
The representatives of the administrative district, in reference to complaints about how garbage removal and cleaning are not taking place in the alleys, said that activities are being implemented in those neighborhoods on behalf of the Yerevan Waste Removal and Sanitary Cleaning institution in the appropriate time frame. Regarding the concerns that social workers never visit the residents, the representative said, “The appropriate agencies have always visited families living in poor social conditions. As a result of the coronavirus, they assessed the needs of citizens as a result of phone interviews. Home visits only take place when absolutely necessary.”
The Kentron neighborhood administration also said that they are continuing to improve the entryways, roofs, roads, and other activities near apartment buildings.
