“This decision was very obviously predictable for us. That is why Mr. Tsarukyan was not present. He immediately went to the National Security Service,” Gagik Tsarukyan’s defendant, Samvel Dilbandyan, said about Tsarukyan’s arrest.
Dilbandyan said that they will be appealing the decision in the Court of Appeals. “The decision was obviously illegal because all of the arguments that were presented in the Court of First Instance accused a politician and political party leader of a semi-severe crime without any basis or witnesses. Using arrest as a deterrence method does not coincide with European values.”
Gagik Tsarukyan was accused of distributing bribes during the 2017 parliamentary elections. However, Tsarukyan claims he is innocent. He considers this process to be a form of political revenge.
