‘Our state will never allow the transfer of any militant from Afghanistan to the Karabakh front’: Adviser to the President of Afghanistan’s interview with Aravot Daily

October 09,2020 20:15

Aravot Daily interviewed the senior adviser of social and academic affairs to the  President of Afghanistan Ashraf Ghani and a professor at Kabul University and Nangarhar University, Lal Pacha Azmoon.

Dear Mr. Azmoon, I first want to ask you about your perspective on the current relations between the Republic of Armenia and the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, both of which have friendly relations and deep historical and cultural ties? In what social and cultural spheres do you see the current cooperation between Armenia and Afghanistan?

Thank you for the interview. We intend on creating peaceful and strong relations with the Republic of Armenia that are based on scientific and cultural cooperation. First as a professor and then as a politician, I would like our two countries to have friendly relations that are based on culture and history that solely promote peace. The thing is that we greatly prioritize peace. We know the price of peace because Afghanistan has been through many wars, as a result of which our country, culture, and psychology have greatly suffered.

As you know, Azerbaijan and Turkey started a war against Artsakh on September 27th. What is Afghanistan’s message to the Armenian people in this situation?

We don’t want any other country to find itself in the hell that is war, which we have gone through and continue to suffer through. At the moment, what is important for Afghanistan in the current war in Nagorno-Karabakh is to maintain peace and to ensure the safe living of the children of our friends, the Armenian people. I would also like to note that the Afghan authorities do not intend on repeating the mistakes of the past. Our state will never allow the transfer of any militant from Afghanistan to the Karabakh front. We also will ban the transfer of terrorist groups from Turkey to Azerbaijan via Afghanistan.

You know that Armenia has good political relations with several Muslim countries, such as Iran, Syria, Iraq, Egypt, the UAE, Jordan, Turkmenistan, and Tajikistan. At the same time, Afghanistan is also one of the countries that formally recognized the independence of Armenia in 1991 and established diplomatic relations.
