The UN’s resolutions and the reality

Of course, I am not so naive as to think that “international rights” have any role to play in the modern world. In particular, world powers tend to sanctify those laws by waving them around like a flag with such documents, and sometimes they trample on those resolutions by considering them to merely be pieces of paper. The contradictory precedents of Artsakh, Kosovo, Crimea, Transnistria, East Timor, South Sudan, South Ossetia, and Abkhazia are clear evidence of this. The Arab Spring, the consequential collapse of those states, and the ongoing wars are no less telling. It’s obvious that the world needs to establish new rules of the game and it needs to play by the rules in the same manner. But I am not optimistic here; I do not think that will happen in my lifetime. What remains is to uphold our own rights with our own strength.
