The first Human Rights Defender of Armenia, Larisa Alaverdyan, was by the National Assembly building. “The demand that we need to present to the National Assembly is that the agreement given by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan means nothing legally. Not due to the fact that it is immoral or anything else, but instead because it did not go through the necessary functions. We are a parliamentary republic, and decisions that have to do with national security must pass in the National Assembly. Then, they could be signed by the head of state. That did not happen. At the same time, a state as powerful as Russia provided its signature. What is our best plan of action? We have clarified that people’s sovereignty was stolen by one person. When they say that Armenia is a sovereign state, that refers to the people’s government, but they did not ask for the people’s opinion on this. His verbal or written agreement means nothing for Armenia or for Russia in terms of legal technicalities. We appeal to Russia to freeze this illegal and illegitimate agreement. We will create temporary transitional bodies that must be created in times like this. These mercenaries rotted this country for 2.5 years. This “revolution” took place through manipulation. The people’s honest desire to be free from corruption was used against them. We are not speaking about reinstating the old government- forget about that.”
