Washington, D.C. – Today the Armenian Assembly of America, the largest, non-partisan Armenian-American advocacy organization in the United States, commended the Program on Peace-building and Human Rights (PBHR) at Columbia University’s Institute for the Study of Human Rights (ISHR) for launching a new research project to document the human rights violations being committed by the governments of Azerbaijan and Turkey against the people of Nagorno-Karabakh (Artsakh).
“Azerbaijan has a long track record of human rights abuses against the Armenian people,” said Bryan Ardouny, Executive Director of the Armenian Assembly of America. “This new research project from Columbia University will help counter Azerbaijan’s disinformation campaign and shed a bright light on the scale of atrocities committed by Azerbaijan, with the full support of Turkey, including the financing of foreign mercenaries. Documentation is a critically important step to ensure accountability for these horrific crimes,” continued Ardouny.
According to Columbia University’s press release, the new project will “draw on primary sources documenting crimes against humanity and other atrocities committed by Azerbaijani armed forces and Turkish-backed Islamist fighters against Armenians.”
Established in 1972, the Armenian Assembly of America is the largest Washington-based nationwide organization promoting public understanding and awareness of Armenian issues. The Assembly is a non-partisan, 501(c)(3) tax-exempt membership organization.
