The issue is not only personal

November 17,2020 19:49

Robert Kocharyan, Serzh Sargsyan, and Nikol Pashinyan differ from one another in the sense that the first two were corrupt, and the third is not. However, the three of them also share similarities: none of them dared to tell society the truth about the Artsakh conflict. In all of these instances, Pashinyan’s populism cannot be compared to anyone else’s, but regarding the Artsakh issue, the three leaders were equally populistic and they told people what they wanted to hear. But that issue is 10, 100 times more important for Armenia than any other issue. Even more, those issues are, more or less, derived from the Artsakh issue. The only person who always “took the risk” of telling people the truth about the Artsakh issue was Levon Ter-Petrossian. When the current opposition sometimes says that “Nikol is Levon’s soil child,” I do not consider that to be accurate. The “soul child” would have never said that “Artsakh is Armenia and that’s it” (as the leader of the state). The soul child never would have said that negotiations start from his point or else no other option is on the table. He would have opposed the ambitious “new war, new territories” statement made by the Ministry of Defense. He would never have referred to the Treaty of Sevres at the state level.
