Former MP Manvel Grigoryan dies aged 64

Public Radio of Armenia.  Former Member of Parliament, former President of the Yerkrapah Volunteers Union Manvel Grigoryan has passed away aged 64, ex-MP Karen Avagyan informs on Facebook.

Manvel Grigoryan was born on July 14, 1956 in a village in Armavir province.

In 1993 he was appointed Commander of the 83rd brigade of the armed forces. Between 1996 and 2000 he was promoted to the Commander of the first corps of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Armenia. In 2000, Grigoryan became Deputy Defense Minister of the Republic of Armenia.

On May 6, 2012, he was elected to the National Assembly from the Republican Party of Armenia.

Grigoryan was arrested by the National Security Service in 2018. He was accused of illegal possession of weapons and ammunition, tax evasion, waste of state funds and embezzlement of property.
