“I was amazed by the heroism of Artsakh’s civilians, especially its women,” the founder of the WarGonzo project, Semyon Pegov, said during the Yerevan-Moscow video bridge.
He remembered an 80-year-old Russian woman whom he fondly referred to as “Babo” (Grandma), who did not leave Stepanakert until the last second.
He met the Russian woman in one of the bunkers. “That story touched my heart. The Russian grandmother is ethnically Russian, but a family from Artsakh adopted her. She did not leave the city until the last second because it was not only home for her, but her grandchildren were also at the frontlines.”
