As of December 1st, the Khnatsokh village of the Syunik Province will become a border village.
“Their border is about 800 meters from our house. If there are 10 villages near the border in Armenia, one of them will be ours. We will be in a dangerous spot. Therefore, we will face many difficulties. Most people in the village work in animal husbandry. If we are unable to take our cows to the pastures because we fear that the Turks are able to shoot at us, as well as because our fields are right next to the border, we will face many difficulties. The people are not panicking yet. We are waiting to see what will happen,” the former head of the Khnatsokh village, Karo Tavadyan, told Aravot Daily.
According to him, a battalion of Armenian soldiers will be transferred to the village by the end of the month. There will be bases for guarding the border. “According to the trilateral agreement, approximately 20 kilometers of land connected to our village will be transferred to Azerbaijan. That includes Tsitsernavank and eight other villages. Residents are already leaving their homes. There won’t be anyone left in two days. According to news reports, those villages will be reinhabited by Azerbaijanis. Those villages are in the Kashatagh region, but they are the villages of Berdzor. We have already lost control; everyone is destroying their homes, they’re taking their cows, they’re cutting down their trees, they’re destroying everything, leaving behind ruins, and leaving. Half of them are going to Jermuk, and the other half are coming to our village. Each village contains Armenian churches that have histories spanning over centuries.”
