“One of the biggest issues is the Meghri route, which is not being discussed in Armenia as much as it is in Turkey. Erdogan has even presented a plan for the road, how it will pass through Meghri, what it will look like, and other features,” Turkologist Ruben Melkonyan said during the parliamentary hearings organized by Bright Armenia as he presented the roadmap for coming out of the post-war internal political situation.
He considered the fact that Turkey may open its border with Armenia to be a threat. “Let me ask a rhetorical question. Turkey can announce its willingness to open its border with Armenia tomorrow. What will Armenia do? Is there a plan to prevent that threat or to be prepared for it? Let me remind you that the plan for closing the border began in the 1990s, not during Pashinyan’s ‘football diplomacy.’ It is enough to simply read a history book to understand that,” Ruben Melkonyan concluded.
