“That phenomenon is not new not only in Azerbaijan, but also in Armenia. It happened in the past and it will continue for as long as there is a conflict with enemies,” Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced during a questions and answers session of parliament.
Due to problems with the connection during the National Assembly session, it was not possible to hear his speech and the question asked. However, it became clear from Bright Armenia deputy Gevorg Gorgisyan’s response what kind of question he asked the prime minister. “I cannot think of a time when our strategic colleague treated the leader of Armenia disrespectfully in the media. I cannot remember a time when the leaders of our enemies were able to make fun of our country’s leader,” Gorgisyan said.
Then he continued, “I pity you because you do not realize that the situation in Armenia has changed. The Armenia where you carried out a revolution and were elected prime minister no longer exists.” According to Gorgisyan, the only way to straighten the almost broken backbone of Armenia is for Nikol Pashinyan, the symbol of loss and failure, to resign. “I don’t understand why you are adamant to stay in your position, and you don’t want to give Armenia the chance to have a better future. Please resign and give Armenia that chance.”
Nikol Pashinyan responded, “In any case, I believe that the people need to have a chance to speak on behalf of themselves. Our biggest issue is to make sure that the people have the chance to voice their opinions, and to avoid confusing the voices of isolated groups with the voice of the people. I think that, when we implement the agenda that you’re referring to, we have to differentiate the means from the goal. I have said that our biggest task is to not endanger the people’s rule in Armenia under any title. I consider that to be the biggest task for me and the executive body today.”
