“Erdogan’s statements contradict one another. He continues to deny the genocide, yet he deliberately and clearly mentions the name of the person who carried out the genocide. This means that they have not rejected their genocidal policies. Therefore, we cannot trust them from a security standpoint,” Bright Armenia deputy Edmon Marukyan said during a briefing in parliament regarding the Turkish president’s statements during yesterday’s military parade in Baku.
“The statements made by the presidents of Turkey and Azerbaijan essentially regard the fact that we cannot speak of peace in the region for a long time. They also go against Russia when they make those statements because Russia is the mediator and guardian of the trilateral agreement both as a permanent member of the UN Security Council and a co-chair of the OSCE Minsk Group,” Marukyan noted.
According to him, “Until they stop making genocidal statements… to begin, this is not the first time they have made claims that Yerevan also belongs to them. They have said so many times. I cannot imagine any relations or cooperations regarding developments in the region or trade until they reject that approach. First, they need to reject that rhetoric. There need to be clear guarantees that they will not violate the sovereign territory of the Republic of Armenia or the territories of Artsakh. That is a circumstance that will take years.”
