Residents of Kapan demand clarification on where border with Azerbaijan will be

December 17,2020 20:55

Residents of Kapan closed the part of the Yerevan-Kapan interstate route that enters the city of Kapan. They are demanding clarification on where the border with Azerbaijan will be, and they announced that they will not open the route until they are told the truth.

The chief of the Kapan police department, Zorik Vardanyan, ordered the protesters to open the route to keep the situation stable. The protesters said that the government is the one who is making the situation unstable. They simply want to guard the border so that Turks cannot enter Kapan.

The protesters told drivers to travel along the route in the Kavart village. “Nikol should have asked us before he gave away land. We won’t give it away ourselves. We won’t let the Turks come here,” the protesters said.

“They shouldn’t just sit in Yerevan. They should get up and come here,” the residents of Kapan demanded. The protesters were warned that there are provocateurs and they should be careful, and that they should listen to the organizers.

Advantageous positions in Kapan will be handed over to the enemy by Friday at 5 PM, which was confirmed by the mayor of Kapan, Gevorg Parsyan, in an interview with Aysor.am.

“The news is true. That was a painful order for us. The advantageous positions that we held until November 9th to maintain the safety zone of Kapan must be vacated by tomorrow at 5 PM. We received the order this morning. We need to retreat along the entire border,” the mayor said.

When asked if that was predicted with the trilateral agreement, Parsyan said that he did not see anything regarding Zangelan or Kubatlu in the agreement.
