On Friday, December 18th, the strategic positions of the villages near Kapan were transferred to the enemy as planned. The mayor of Kapan, Gevorg Parsyan, confirmed this news with Aravot Daily. The enemy would target Kapan and the neighboring territories from those positions in 1992 and 1993 during the Artsakh Liberation War. The Armenian side liberated those positions during that war.
Protests have taken place in Syunik over the past two days. Protesters from Kapan closed the Kapan-Yerevan interstate on Thursday, and protesters from Goris closed the interstate route in the Vorotan village on Friday. The protests will continue as long the issue of Syunik’s security remains unresolved. The residents of Goris are also demanding Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s resignation.
“The person who sold our lands does not have the right to govern. After he sold Artsakh’s territory, he is now selling Armenia’s territory. The blood of our sons has spilled on that territory,” the people of Syunik said.

Before the positions were transferred, the locals were burning their homes that were located near the Syunik airport and next to the areas entering the Kashatagh region.
Aravot Daily attempted to confirm from a member of the Kajaran Yerkrapah Volunteer Union council, Garik Ghazaryan, what the situation is like at the Kapan border. “We spoke about this yesterday when we closed the roads. Twenty-four hours haven’t even gone by and people are already burning their homes and leaving to prevent the Turks from getting them. And those people who sold these lands will pay for this. We won’t stay silent,” Garik Ghazaryan said on the phone.
