62 prisoners of war from Shirak are in Baku: My Step deputies return from Artsakh

December 22,2020 17:51

Azerbaijan confirmed that the volunteers from Shirak who were taken prisoner in Khtsaberd after the trilateral agreement was signed between Armenia, Russia, and Azerbaijan on November 9th are now in Baku. My Step deputies Sofia Hovsepyan and Nazeli Baghdasaryan confirmed this during a press conference in parliament. They recently returned from Artsakh, where they held meetings with the local authorities and the commander of the Russian peacekeeping troops. The parents of those taken prisoner were also present at the meetings.

According to Nazeli Baghdasaryan, preliminary data suggests that Rustam Muradov will be in Baku next week, where he will discuss the issue of returning the 62 prisoners of war to Armenia. The names of all those taken prisoner have not entirely been confirmed.

Responding to reporters’ questions about the roads and the locals’ safety, the deputies said that they were able to pass through the areas that are considered to be the most dangerous. They also returned through those areas and did not encounter any difficulties. However, it is impossible to rule anything out. “We also confirmed the deployment of Russian peacekeepers in certain locations during our meetings with them. The Russian peacekeepers are unable to have a base anywhere they want to. I understand people’s concern about whether or not it is safe to travel in Berdzor. I can absolutely assure you that the situation is under control, but we need to have realistic concerns and not be careless,” Nazeli Baghdasaryan said. Sofia Hovsepyan added that the uproar surrounding safety is fake more often than not.

The deputies refused to comment on information that spread in the media about how Azerbaijanis did not allow the movement of Armenian military vehicles in the Kashatagh region. The deputies said that they are not authorized to comment on that.
