‘Elevators will be installed in buildings of soldiers who now have disabilities, which they can use with wheelchairs’: Mayor

December 23,2020 18:45

“I would like to note something important. It has been almost six months since the Yerevan municipality last handed out bonuses. This decision was made based on the war. I mean that all employees have realized that these are heavy and difficult days, and we should not exclude ourselves from the hardships that our brothers and sisters suffered through,” Mayor Hayk Marutyan said during the recent session of the Yerevan city council. “Many people lost their children, fathers, mothers, and they were left without their breadwinners. This is a heavy national tragedy. The municipality with all of its employees will not exclude itself from this and it will participate in the process in any way it can,” he added.

Marutyan said, “I have already spoken to the Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, and asked that he provide us with a final list of soldiers who became physically disabled as a result of the war and now have mobility difficulties. We will use our savings to install elevators in all high-rise buildings that can be used with wheelchairs. We will furnish the entrances. We will do our best to allow them to move freely from their home to the nearest bus station or wherever else they need to be. We will resolve these issues point by point and in their entirety to the best of our ability. The money that was saved from bonuses will be spent on specific projects. We will present more details in the future.”

Regarding the issue of whether or not employees will receive a 13th salary, the mayor emphasized, “That is a bonus, and when I referred to bonuses, I meant all of them.”
