Preventing violence against women: EU project publishes leaflet on international convention in Azerbaijani

January 12,2021 14:59

A leaflet explaining the monitoring mechanism of the Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence (Istanbul Convention) is now available in Azerbaijani.

Thtranslation was prepared within the framework of the project on ‘Raising awareness of the Istanbul Convention and other gender equality standards in Azerbaijan’ as part of the Partnership for Good Governance II programme financed by the European Union and the Council of Europe, and implemented by the Council of Europe.

The Istanbul Convention is widely recognised as one of the main legal standards and the most comprehensive international treaty to tackle violence against women and domestic violence (VAW/DV). The Convention’s monitoring system is based on two pillars to help party states to implement it: an independent expert body, the Group of Experts on Action against Violence against women and Domestic Violence (GREVIO), and a political body, the Committee of the Parties.

Although Azerbaijan has not yet signed the treaty, this translation will help to find out more on how Azerbaijan could benefit of being part of the Convention, and how its monitoring system can accompany the authorities in preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence.

The Partnership for Good Governance aims to help the EU’s six Eastern partner countries move closer to European standards on human rights, democracy and the rule of law.
