Varazdat Saneyan participated in the second war with his brother, Vardan. Vardan was wounded in the leg during battles in the defense of the homeland, but Varazdat lost both of his arms.
Varazdat recently got engaged to his girlfriend, Sona Khachatryan, who is a beautiful student at Yerevan State University’s Faculty of Armenian Philology. Facebook users were sharing photos of their engagement party and in awe of the beautiful couple’s happiness and powerful victory.
In an interview with Aravot Daily, Varazdat encouraged soldiers who were wounded during the war to not become discouraged. “Everything will be fine, God willing. Thank God we’re alive. Being wounded is secondary for me because being able to spend time with my parents and loved ones means everything. I don’t want our soldiers to feel discouraged, either. Everything will be fine. God closes one door and opens another. The most important thing is for us to not grow discouraged. We always need to look forward and try to become better after everything that happened, regardless of the fact that we were wounded. I want that for everyone.”
Varazdat said, “I would like to receive prosthetic hands so that I will be able to drink a glass of water. And God willing, that will happen, too. I don’t like to get ahead of things. I leave everything up to God’s will because life has shown me that it’s not necessary to get ahead of God.”

Speaking about his girlfriend, the hero said, “Our strength is in our love. I don’t know what else to talk about besides love. All obstacles can be overcome with love. Once again, I want to remind wounded soldiers who lost their legs or arms to not grow discouraged. If there is love- which absolutely does exist- then everything will be fine in the end. Using myself as an example, I am in love, and true love does not look at the wounds you have and what you lost.”
Varazdat said that he will once again put on his military uniform and defend the homeland if the need arises. “If we live in a country that is surrounded by enemies, I will once again go to the frontlines after I heal. You have to defend the borders of your country so that you can relax. You shouldn’t say that you participated in the war, were wounded, and that’s it, you carried out your duty to the homeland. We are indebted to our homeland until the end of our lives. Parents need to raise their children in such a way that they shouldn’t only respect their elders and be good children to their parents, but also their homeland.”
Varazdat added that he is able to fix cars and he has an eye for details. His fiancee teaches the Armenian language and literature to children at home.
Varazdat Saneyan considers his most valuable gift to be love. “The best gift is that we are together and we love each other. There is nothing more valuable in the world to me.”
