‘The My Step deputies live as though November 9th did not happen’: Protests by the National Assembly

February 03,2021 18:00

This morning, members of the Save Armenia movement gathered by the National Assembly on Demirchyan street to protest.

They wanted to prevent deputies from entering parliament because, according to them, anti-Armenian legislation would be passed during the extraordinary session of parliament.

Earlier, an argument broke out between one of the protesters and the police. The police officers ordered the protester to come to the sidewalk, but the protester refused, saying that he is an Armenian citizen and he will stand wherever he wants to. In the end, he was taken into custody. Later on, it was confirmed that this protester was a member of the Hayrenik political party, Tigran Sukiasyan.

The president of the RPA Youth Organization, Hayk Mamijanyan, assured reporters that a normal leader would have resolved the issue of captives, socioeconomic problems, and issues regarding the military, but according to him, this government is dealing with issues regarding detention courts. He continued, “The most important issue for parliament today seems to be the establishment of detention courts, which will enable them to put their opponents behind bars even easier.”

When reminded that there were several publications indicating that the Save Armenia movement is dissolving, Mamijanyan responded that the movement is working and they have had several successes.

Regarding the deployment of large numbers of police officers, Hayk Mamijanyan said that they are conducting protests alongside Save Armenia. The movement brings in around 1,000 protesters, and there are 1,000 police officers.

The protesters are concerned and angry about the fact that the My Step deputies live as though November 9th did not happen. They are not doing anything to bring the captives home.
