March 16,2021 14:53

Washington, D.C. – The aggression of Azerbaijan and Turkey against the Armenian people last Fall will be the focus of the virtual event, “Anatomy of Genocide: Karabakh’s Forty-Four Day War,” hosted by International Christian Concern (ICC) and the Armenian Assembly of America (Assembly) on Wednesday, March 17, 2021 at 10:00 am EST.

Special guest speaker Robert Avetisyan, the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Artsakh to the U.S., will deliver remarks, alongside representatives from ICC and the Assembly, aimed at highlighting key issues relative to the war and its aftermath and providing recommendations for U.S. policymakers on how to address and resolve outstanding issues.

The war in Artsakh launched by Azerbaijan, with the full and open support of Turkey and jihadist mercenaries, on September 27, 2020, resulted in horrific human rights abuses against Armenian Christian civilians of Artsakh and Armenian soldiers who are still held as prisoners of war by Azerbaijan, in clear violation of the November 9, 2020 ceasefire statement as well as the Geneva Conventions.

In a recent statement, the ICC observed that the war went beyond territorial control of Artsakh.

“Both Turkey and Azerbaijan continually used symbolic narratives that promoted their shared Pan-Turkic identity, with an intention to eliminate the Armenian identity completely from Artsakh. The degrading treatment of Armenian Christians illustrates this desire, remnant of the treatment of Armenians during the genocide of the early 20th century. For this reason, Turkish and Azerbaijani ambition still threatens the mere existence of Armenians on account of their ethnicity and religion.”

ICC recently published an in-depth report titled “The Anatomy of Genocide: Karabakh’s Forty-Four Day War” that provides further background into the history of the region and the motives behind Azerbaijan and Turkey’s intent to start a war.

“ICC is standing with the Armenian people and speaking out against the egregious actions by  Azerbaijan and Turkey,” stated Assembly Executive Director Bryan Ardouny.
