“Almost nothing has changed with the military exercises. They are playing the same thing,” Hayk Khachikyan an analyst at Razm.info, told reporters during a meeting at the Henaran press club. He noted that the only ‘news’ with these exercises is that there have been no changes in Azerbaijan’s actions.
The coordinator of the specialized Razm.info site, Karen Vrtanesyan, stressed that this is proof that Azerbaijan has not given up on military activities and the thought of taking over all of Artsakh regardless of what it says during discussions about peace and trade. “That propaganda is meaningless because the military exercises are directed against Artsakh. This also is proof of the fact that Azerbaijan has more fanatical demands and it wants everything right now. The peacekeepers restrain Azerbaijan for now. If hostilities break out in Donbas, we cannot rule out the possibility of Azerbaijan resorting to some kind of military adventure. At some point, they may attempt to provoke the situation using snipers, for example. The war is not over, and Azerbaijan continues its same belligerent and aggressive policy against Armenia and Artsakh.”
According to Karen Vrtanesyan, “Unfortunately, the Armenian authorities are not prepared for that. I have not seen serious steps towards uniting society and reconstructing the army’s potential. They have weak hopes in Armenia’s military exercises, although, unfortunately, I have doubts regarding how effective they will be in today’s conditions. It is not even clear who is in charge of the General Staff.”
