“The current situation in the region is the main topic of our discussions. Undoubtedly, the situation in the region has changed since the November 10th ceasefire agreement on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict,” the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Sweden and the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office Ann Linde said at a press conference after meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia Ara Ayvazyan.
The OSCE Chairperson-in-Office welcomed the ceasefire agreement and expressed her condolences for wounded and fallen soldiers.
Regarding the November 9th agreement between Armenia, Russia, and Azerbaijan, the current chairperson-in-office said, “The implementation of the ceasefire agreement will provide a basis for moving forward in the conflict resolution process. As the OSCE chairperson-in-office this year, I welcome the activities of the co-chairs and the efforts of our personal representative in finding a stable and long-term solution. Several confrontation issues still need to be resolved. The OSCE and the international community play an important role in directly addressing the situation and finding paths for moving forward.”
Ann Linde emphasized the need to respect international law, including international humanitarian law.

She said that they are pushing for a women’s rights, security, and peace agenda, and the UN Security Council Resolution 1325.
Regarding the domestic political situation in Armenia, the chairperson-in-office said, “I am impressed by the democratic changes in Armenia that began in 2018. In recent weeks, we have seen how fragile democratic progress can be. I reiterate my call to all parties to resolve all issues peacefully while respecting democratic progress and the rule of law in accordance with the OSCE’s commitments.”
