Tigran Abrahamyan: Soon, Azerbaijan will begin to work in the direction of Vayots Dzor and Gegharkunik

March 17,2021 19:30

“The conflict has not been resolved,” the former advisor to the President of Artsakh and head of the Henaket analytical center, Tigran Abrahamyan, said during a press conference at the Hayeli press club.

He said that the issue of Artsakh’s status has still not been resolved until now. Instead, that issue is not even on the agenda for discussions. “The other provisions, including the opening of a corridor through Syunik, already show that Armenian interests are not represented or recognized in any way. There is no will, no demand, no clear desire to achieve it. Maybe there is, but it is not being expressed in real policies in any way, and the situation is painfully tragic for us. It seemed as though the situation reached its final point with the November 10th trilateral statement, but sadly, point by point and day by day, we continue to make concessions.”

Tigran Abrahamyan believes that Azerbaijan’s threats to resume the war at this stage, which are supported by Turkey, are tools of punishment or blackmail to achieve the final result. “They will try to have the advantage in positions at any time. At the moment, we are seeing that in Syunik, and we will see it happen later on in Vayots Dzor and other places. Vayots Dzor and Gegharkunik have high mountain ranges. In case they gain new positions, communication will not be fully available to Azerbaijan due to the weather conditions. However, I have to sadly say that in the near future, if weather conditions improve, Azerbaijan will start working in that direction as well. We have seen this take place in the last 2-3 decades in the direction of Nakhichevan and Tavush, and more actively in the direction of Artsakh. All this shows or suggests that Azerbaijan will try to provide the best position for itself in the current situation, which will create even more of an opportunity for Azerbaijan.”

But Armenia needs to take new heights within the new borders, as well as create new infrastructure. It also must fill the border with technological methods. “This will not only give us the opportunity to prevent Azerbaijan from having the advantage, but it will also give us the opportunity to reduce the chances of Azerbaijan’s pressure in future processes.”
