During the last Artsakh war, Captain Artush Arzumanyan, Deputy Chief of Staff of the 5th Battalion of the Armed Forces, left for Artsakh. He went as an officer, and his wife went as a nurse. On Monday, his wife was at Yerablur at her husband’s grave. “I could not stop him in any way. I knew that everything was over. None of us could have been saved in any way. I was a nurse at the hospital in Jabrayil. I was begging him to not go and to remember that he has three children, and they kept shooting at us from above. He didn’t listen. He said, ‘Hrip, these children need me, these children are suffering in front of my eyes, they’re 18 years old, they’re the same age as my own children.’ I couldn’t hold him back. I went and participated in this war for him, but he died,” Arzumanyan’s wife, Hripsime Martirosyan, told Aravot Daily in an interview at Yerablur.

When asked how he died, she said, “All the vehicles in his battalion exploded. He transported the ammunition in his own car, picked up the wounded soldiers on the way to the hospital, took them to the hospital, and brought dead bodies to the hospital. I do not know why he went to transport the wounded at that time. The ambulances had exploded. He had nothing to do with the wounded; he should not have been transporting them.”

Artush Arzumanyan’s oldest son is 18 years old. He was able to postpone his service, but he did not agree to it. “He went according to his own will. I couldn’t even hold my child back. He is in Artsakh now.”

When asked if the state provides the family with adequate attention now, the woman said, “Not at all. The state probably doesn’t even know that it lost an officer. His name isn’t written anywhere. They haven’t visited us at all. No one from either the command staff or the state came to our door to ask us what happened. I am very sad that this many people died. For what? For this state, where no one knows where the officers are?”
