‘The egg conspiracy’

April 07,2021 12:55

On Easter Sunday, stores were almost out of eggs, and if there were any eggs left, they were incredibly expensive and people were standing in long lines for them. Who is to blame for that? Well, of course, the former regime, which demanded that egg producers and sellers hold onto their eggs and create an artificial deficit so that the people can feel dissatisfied.

Eggs are, of course, a small detail; for me personally, the meaning of the church holiday does not lie in eggs, rice, or even fasting. Those are all external demonstrations.

By and large, it is not important that tens of thousands of people believe in the conspiracies about the ‘former regime.’ It is already clear that brainwashed people already make up a huge portion of society. The important thing is that even in small issues, the government manifests its inabilities, disorganization, and incompetence, and in this case, too, instead of delving into essence, it makes up stories.

It could not have happened any other way. By walking from Gyumri to Yerevan and taking power in 2-3 weeks, was it possible to have a vision for national development, skills in governing, and create a viable team? No. Over this time period, it was possible to create an “anti-system” in place of the old corrupt system- some “nodes” lacking coordination and purpose that are incapable of functioning and can only contribute further to the disintegration of our state.

If failures only took place in the military or foreign policy sectors, it would have been very painful and tragic, but the hope to get back up on our feet would have stayed. But when the entire state system “doesn’t want to fire up,” so to speak, this also implies a certain pessimistic scenario for the months and years in the post-war period. In this case, all that remains is to talk about “100 facts about New Armenia,” “1,000 facts about our unprecedented success,” and “10,000 carpets for Citizens’ Day.”

It is important that our citizens enjoy these conversations. They may believe for months or even years that, say, a significant increase in food prices is the work of the “former robbers.” But if this lasts long, they will pack their bags with the same conviction and tell their children and grandchildren the same stories, for example, in the villages of the Krasnodar region. Children and especially grandchildren will hear these stories for a while, but then they will forget why these stories spread. Because the country their parents and grandparents talked about will no longer interest them.
