‘These authorities cannot resolve the prisoners of war issue’: Zhirayr Dadasyan

April 10,2021 16:11

“Something new has happened every day over the past three years, and I am no longer surprised… something new happens every day, and our media sector is full of different discussions. It seems as though that’s how they keep people busy.

For someone who has a normal and analytical thought process, it is obvious that this is not how the prisoners of war issue should be resolved. These authorities can never resolve the prisoners of war issue. That can already be understood from the responses coming from enemy officials,” the art director of the Yerevan State Pantomime Theater, Zhirayr Dadasyan, said at the Hayeli press club regarding the airplane that arrived in Yerevan empty.

The art director believes that it is impossible for the authorities to be able to hand over Meghri through different directed moves. “There is a red line… In any case, I believe that this won’t happen.”

In his opinion, the agenda is full of different issues. Meanwhile, the most important issue should have been Artsakh’s statehood and our state issues. “As of September 26th, we must tighten the borders at all costs.” According to Zhirayr Dadasyan, only primitive thinkers can see war beneath all of this. “Even in 1998, they were saying that a warmongering authority came to power, but those were the most peaceful and prosperous years.”

Zhirayr Dadasyan believes that it is obvious that Artsakh was the guarantor of the Republic of Armenia’s existence. “Artsakh was the state unit, and as long as we are unable to restore Artsakh’s statehood, we will not have an Armenian state with Artsakh and Armenia together. We will simply have a plundered and destroyed country- in other words, what we have now.

Unfortunately, they are filling the agenda with small issues instead of deep ideas. I agree with the president in the sense that our people do not understand the importance of the state, and that happened due to historical events. After being part of the USSR for 70 years, it seemed as though we had a state, and when we had an independent state, everyone thought that someone would defend us again through inertia, and money would flow in so that we could build a metro and complex and so that we could start businesses, but all of that had ended. We have a sovereign state, and we must stay dependent on that.”

Zhirayr Dadasyan said that, according to analysts, there is no specific position as far as what the opposition and the others want. “Personally, the formula that I just tried to create was very clear to me. If we do not put Artsakh and its statehood at the forefront, we will no longer have Armenia. I say this as an Armenian who knows the history of his own people… And in the next elections, I will vote for the force that will put the Artsakh issue at the forefront.”

According to the art director, “When the opposition movement began, they used the wording ‘Homeland Salvation Movement.’ I do not think this is accurate; it should have been the ‘State Salvation Movement’ because territories that are currently part of Turkey are also part of the homeland. In other words, we have a homeland, but we need to have a state within that homeland.”
