April 12,2021 16:57

The military science classroom at the Aram Manukyan Secondary School in the bordering village of Davik Bek in the Syunik Province was named in honor of Aren Avanesyan, a graduate of the school who died during the second Artsakh war.

After graduating, Aren Avanesyan received a full-ride scholarship to study in the Faculty of Physics at the Armenian State Pedagogical University named after K. Abovyan. He was in his first year of studies when he volunteered to join the army in January of 2019.

After undergoing 6 months of preliminary military training in Armavir, Aren continued his service in Artsakh in one of the military units of Hadrut. Sergeant Avanesyan was a detachment commander and a senior of the position. He was awarded the Order of the Best Squadron Commander. During the September war, they were transferred from Hadrut to Fizuli, then to Martuni due to the enemy’s advances.

Aren died on November 9, 2020, from a UAV attack. He had many plans. He wanted to return to his native village after he graduated to work at the school and change people’s lives.

There were many people at the school in Davit Bek on the day the classroom was named after him. Aren Avanesyan’s parents, brother, and sisters, employees at the Syunik regional administration, and others from Davit Bek were present. Before the event began, the teachers spoke to his relatives about their memories of him.

“We all remember Aren. I see him before me every day like a veil coming over my eyes with his honest smile… It seems as it were just yesterday… And that sincerity was the purity of his soul that did not hold him back for a second from fighting for the homeland,” the school principal, Vrej Balayan, said.

“Aren’s spirit is here, at his school. This school and military science classroom need to be filled with his spirit. We must raise the next generations using him as an example so that they can live for the homeland and for the future,” the principal said.
